What does a home EV charger installation involve?
A hard-wired Level 2 charger is electrical work that needs a permit and an inspection, and the largest cost is usually the run from your panel to where the car actually parks rather than the charger itself. Older homes and detached garages frequently need a panel or service upgrade first. Where you also have solar, charging during daylight is worth materially more than charging overnight under current export rates.

Do I need a permit to install an EV charger in South Carolina?
In most SC jurisdictions, yes, a hardwired Level 2 charger needs an electrical permit and inspection. We handle the permit and the inspection as part of the job, so it’s installed to code, not a weekend shortcut.
Will my electrical panel handle an EV charger, or do I need an upgrade?
It depends on your panel’s capacity and your home’s existing loads. Many homes are fine as-is; older or heavily loaded panels may need an upgrade to add a continuous EV load safely. We run a load calculation during your free assessment and tell you before any work starts.
How long does it take to charge an EV at home?
