In South Carolina one-for-one closed to new applicants in 2021 and in Georgia exported power earns about half of retail, so a system here is designed differently: an array sized to offset your annual consumption captures close to full value without needing storage to prop it up.
One caveat matters before anyone designs a large system. HB 1255 raised the capacity above which a residential customer is billed a monthly standby charge from 15 kW AC to 20 kW AC with effect from 1 July 2026, but a utility tariff does not update automatically on a statutory date, and Dominion had not revised its residential schedule at the time of writing. If your household genuinely wants more than 15 kW AC, get the standby position in writing at the point you interconnect. Prince William County reviews the work and has adopted a solar equipment tax exemption, and snow loading is a real racking input here in a way it never is in the Carolinas.
